AL Central vs Detroit Tigers; Game 2 Recap

When it comes to current events, The AL Central basically wasted Detroit in Game 2 of their series, and it wasn't pretty. As a result, the Indians came out on top as Cleveland outfielders Grady Sizemore and Shin-Soo Choo, combined with Catcher Carlos Santana and 3rd baseman Lonnie Chisenhall, accounted for all but one of the division's 9 runs in the game, and that run was a homer hit in the 8th by Twins DH Joe Mauer.

The trouble for Detroit pitcher Max Scherzer started with two gone in the first when Mauer reaches on a single to right center. After walking 1st baseman Paul Konerko of the White Sox, Sizemore hit a ground rule double that bounced right in front of Left Fielder Delmon Young's feet and scored Mauer.

If the 1st inning was bad, the second was pure torture for the Tigers as they lost 3rd Baseman Brandon Inge for the series to a wrist injury. It happened when Inge jammed his wrist against the base while diving for Chisenhall's single down the left field line. He would later score on Asdrubal Cabrera's diamond cutter toward center (single right down the middle of the diamond, It was a term coined by Tom Kelly when he did some games for FSN North last season.) As for Inge's injury, it caused problems for the Detroit Lineup as Miguel Cabrera moved over to third and DH Prince Fielder had to play 1st. This meant that Scherzer would bat 6th in the lineup. He struck out against White Sox Pitcher John Danks who had five total K's in six innings and gave up only one run, and it was a home run to Fielder in the 4th

.The best inning for the Division was the top 6th thanks to an error committed by Young and a bad throw by Right Fielder Don Kelly. The Error happened when Young misplayed a fly ball hit by Denard Span, the Twins Center Fielder, who would score on A. Cabrera's home run. Sizemore would then be intentionally walked and would score on a triple hit by Santana that resulted from Kelly missing the cutoff man. Still Kelly was in good company. Young misplayed a ball hit by Konerko and missed the cut-off man in the third. Sizemore belted the next pitch to right center for a home run.

Studs

Cleveland Indians Players: Accounted for eight of the nine runs scored by the AL Central.

Relievers Vinni Pestano, Greg Holland, and Jesse Crain: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 W, 2 K

Prince Fielder: Two home runs in two games.

Duds

Delmon Young for poor defense

Max Scherzer: 5 IP, 12 H, 5 ER

Joaquin Benoit: 1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER (Thanks Delmon)

Notes: I did have a look at a recent story at Bless You Boys where there was info on the Prince Fielder introduction press conference. Basically what happened is that Jim Leyland basically threw Inge under the bus. I decided to get rid of him as a result. In this exercise, Andy Dirks has been called up from Triple A and will be in the lineup for game 3.
