Twinkie Town 2012 Top 50...Round 24!

In our closest race yet, Manuel Soliman edged David Bromberg for the Twenty-Third spot in our poll. Soliman had 56 of 269 votes (20%) to Bromberg's 53. Nate Roberts was third (45), Deolis Guerra fourth (31) and Lester Oliveros fifth (24). Daniel Santana will be dropped from the next round. We will bring back Jairo Perez and add this year's fourth round pick, Matt Summers. Perez hit .337 average and .992 OPS with fifteen home runs for Beloit. Summers, who has been described to me as a reliever in the Jesse Crain mold, put up numbers as good as anyone in the organization with a 0.87 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, 36 strikeouts and only 5 walks in 20.2 innings. This round will remain open until Saturday morning.

Went with Lester

Name out of a hat, pretty much.

In other minor league news

The Twins have released RHP Todd Van Steensel, per his twitter account.

Went with Hermsen

I had a hard time picking between Hermsen and Stuifbergen before. Stuiffy went #17. So it stands to reason Hermsen belongs within shooting distance of him. Looking at the stats, I actually prefer Hermsen. I mean, Stuiffy had 151 hits in a 116 innings pitched as a 22 year old in Fort Myers last year. Yikes. Hermsen had better numbers and is a year younger.

released Pedro Guerra?

Why on earth would they do that?

???

Yeah why would they do that? I wonder if it’s an off the field issue?

I was dissapointed last year when

P. Guerra was sent down to E-town. He needed to be in Ft.Myers at his age. Why that happened, who knows? Ciurcina was one of the best young prospects, but he must of gotten hurt. His numbers last year where bad. Van Steensel is a big surprise to me. I had him as the next pitching prospect after Dean. He would be old to be starting at Beloit but, he was only with the Twins one year. I guess they’re going with all the drafted pitchers from last year, plus there was some late signies that didn’t pitch last year.

There's more to the story than numbers

I voted for David Bromberg

After the 2010 season, Baseball America said he had the best curveball in the Twins minor league system. Link

How have the vote totals changed?

roger – how has the number of votes cast per round changed from round to round? I assume that they have declined, but I am wondering how much.

Bromberg

Despite disliking him in the earlier rounds, I feel it’s finally his turn.

I read were Ryan said Doyle was

taken as a starter and was long term. He’s 26, to me this means that they don’t like Manship ,Swarzak,Diamon or Deunsing as potential starters. So they’ll add him with Gibson and Hendricks as starters for next year. I’d look for lots of turn over of starting pitcher next fall. I hate to say it but we are going through a turn over of talent. I think the next couple of years we’ll see a new core of young talent along with M&M.

Gibson won't pitch until September at the earliest

And then only in relief. He won’t be ready to contribute to a winning season on the big club until 2014. 2013 will be the year he builds innings and arm strength. Wimmers is more likely to make a contribution than Gibson at this stage.
