How far does Twins Territory extend? (Or, Where are you from?)
Inspired by a post I saw on Fish Stripes, I thought it might be fun to see where Twinkie Town posters and lurkers hail from. We all know that the Twins play in Minneapolis, Minnesota, but not everyone is from Minnesota. Heck, some of you probably aren't even in the United States. Twins Territory just might be as international as the Twins themselves are. So take this little poll and say where you're from. You can be specific in the comments.

I'm in Sacramento, California
Lifelong CA resident. I first heard about the Twins in 2000, when I was just starting to get into baseball. I was looking through a program while at a River Cats game (they’re our AAA team, affiliate to the A’s), and I saw the name “Minnesota Twins” on a list of minor and major league teams. The name stuck with me, and as the months went by after that I just got more and more curious. I learned about their history, their great players, the cool logos and uniforms, the stadium, etc. By my birthday, I had christened myself a fan and even sent Kirby Puckett a letter, which he responded to with an autograph. And my fanhood has only grown since then, and will continue to grow in the years to come! Btw, this is a great idea for a poll. I want to see how far the fanbase’s global reach really is.
When I was a kid, I would cover a blue futon with a white blanket, prop it up with a fan set on high, and pretend it was the Metrodome. That should tell you a lot.

True
But it does count on our votes and Cubs and Red Sox fans dwarf the Cardinals, White Sox, and Yankees fans. That is when you consider the Yankees the Red Sox natural rivals while the White Sox and Cardinals are natural rivals of the Cubs.
Seriously Bud, keep the Astros in the NL and move the Brewers back to the AL.

I grew up in Minneapolis, and my earliest memories were Rod Carew as rookie of the year. Jim Kaat, Tony Oliva, Harmon, and Billy Martin managing…(that was interesting looking back). Anyway, you can take the boy out of Minnesota, but you can’t take Minnesota out of the boy.

San Francisco
I love that, at least right now, “Pacific Coast” has more people in it than either of the Minnesota options.
But I was born and raised in the Twin Cities… there’s a hotdish poster in my kitchen.
Also, I actually know someone stationed in Antarctica right now. She’s not a Twins fan, otherwise I’d make her answer the poll.

Grew up in Northern Minnesota, but I currently reside in San Francisco.
Add me to the SF group
grew up in LA (about a 10 minute walk from Dodger stadium) and moved to MN to attend the U. Sadly that was 1991. Lived in MN through the 90’s when I got to watch games at the Dome with about 1200 others and moved to NoCal in the 00’s.
Fell hard for the Twins around 84’ on a rare trip to watch an Angles game and I’ll die a Twins fan.

Moved to portland for work awhile ago.. which in most cases is a horrid idea.
TC caps are pretty frequently walking around out here. They’re either just behind or tied for first with the BoSox hats. Also lots of White Sox hats out here too unfortunately.
Never, never, ever see any Vikings gear (guessing mostly due to ugly logo/color) or Wolves. Maybe have seen one or two Wild hats but pretty rare too.
Funny, I came across a Twins fan when I vacationed up to Portland this past summer
I was inside a Mexican restaurant with my vintage Carew jersey, and a guy outside noticed it through the window and did a double take. He walked inside and engaged me in a long conversation about the Twins, told me he used to ride his bike to see games at the Met in the 60’s, chatted about the current struggles and such. It was just a blast to come across a fellow fan in such a random place and talk about the stuff that defines being a diehard.

A similar thing happened to me in Talkeetna, AK
I was eating breakfast at a roadhouse (where you were at a table with other people, cafeteria style) and the guy across from me had a Twins hat on. Turns out he grew up in Hutchinson, which is very near the small town where my parents grew up, so we chatted about that and also about the Twins chances in the playoffs. (At that point, they were down 0-2 to the Yankees in the 2010 ALDS.) He directed me to a bar in town for later in the day where I watched the sweep be finalized, and I discovered a whole little enclave of Twins fans. (Okay, three people, but in a town of 200 in the middle of nowhere Alaska, I thought that was pretty good.)

SD
The eastern part of the state (as well as eastern ND) is pretty strongly Twins Territory – we get the Winter Caravan here and everything.
I grew up in the northwestern part of the state, which is less well-defined, at least partially because while the Twins were still by far the closest team (Denver’s only a couple hours farther away, but the Rockies didn’t start until I was 13), it was far enough away that it was rare to get to a game, and there was no network to watch all the games on. Braves and Cubs got a lot of fans thanks to their superstations carrying lots of games, and the Braves got a TON of bandwagon fans in the early 90s (most of them also became Dallas Cowboys fans – these are TERRIBLE PEOPLE). It was probably less than 50% Twins fans, and the people who were most into baseball usually followed the Cubs.

The WGN/TBS thing...
…even applied in Minnesota itself. When I was a kid (mid-80s), we didn’t get televised games, so if we wanted to watch baseball, it was either the Cubs or the Braves. And what sort of choice was that? Cubs, hands down. I still follow them a little bit, because apparently I like a yearly helping of pain and disappointment.

Unless you're just a fair-weather fan, which I am.
It limits your disappointment to NFC championship games, at least, and then you think “well, they did make it his far, which is unusual,” and the pain immediately subsides.

I live in Cleveland now but grew up in Minneapolis. My earliest recollection of the Twins is riding my bicycle down to Lake and Nicollet to the Northwest bank. There my brother and I would catch a bus to Met stadium on knotholes days. We could get a left field bleacher seat for a dollar. I have been a Twins fan ever since.
Nordeast, Mpls
I moved back to the TC in 1992 when we had a kid. I lived in the Mission District in SF during the World Series era, and mostly watched Kirby Puckett’s back from the Oakland Coliseum center field bleachers. (He would not turn around no matter how much we tried to convince him he was our idol.) Interesting fan post, thanks.

Honestly
If that is true, then driving the freeways in the cities will be much safer. Most People that do go through red lights, happen to do so because they just turned red. You will love the Bismarck-Mandan area because we are courteous when it comes to red lights. Usually the people that have the green light will let the people that got the red go if it is the first few seconds. This usually happens when the left turn signal goes red.

I am not recruting you
I am just saying that the driving is good in this area. The part that should give you problems is the fact that there is a small two block square (of which I forgot the name) in downtown Bismarck with a two-lane street running through it. The one-ways are Broadway Avenue running east from 4th to 6th streets, 6th Street running north from Broadway to Thayer Avenue, Thayer Avenue running west from 6th to 4th Street, and 4th Street running south from Thayer to Broadway, and that isn’t even the principle set of one ways in Bismarck. They are 7th Street headed south from Blvd Avenue to the Bismarck Expressway and 9th Street headed north between the same roads. You will be in Bismarck if you attend UND Medical school because they could give you a medical internship in their Bismarck location.

True
Nobody really does need for their graves to be tourist traps.
But if you are talking about a simple little grave, in a public cemetery, where Harmon is buried it should at least be documented because he is an hall of famer. Besides not many fans will remember where his grave is located in 100 years. It is the MLB legends that get the tourist traps and that could include Joe Mauer.

I just think people shouldn't intentionally wander around the cemetary looking for his grave.
I mean if someone knew someone buried there and happened to be walking towards their grave and see’s his grave, it would be completely fine fr them to pay their respects, but I don’t think they need to stop for a photoshoot with his grave. It just seems disrespectful.
