Twinkie Town Playoff Central: How Former Minnesota Twins Spent Their Thursday

Lew Ford did Lew Ford things, J.J. Hardy caused more teeth-gnashing, Delmon Young will continue to look funny for another week

Four playoff games on Thursday. Lots and lots of former Minnesota Twins were involved. How'd they do?

  • Lew Ford got picked off as the potential go-ahead run in the 9th inning of an elimination game for his team. This is the ultimate Lew Ford thing to do, isn't it?
  • Ford was pinch running for Jim Thome. If Thome doesn't play today and the Orioles are eliminated, his (potentially) last major league at-bat resulted in an infield single, which is great, because Jim Thome. Ideally, he'll hit a 550-foot, 6-run home run to take out the Yankees and give Community a full-season pick-up from NBC, but I'm okay with this, too.
  • J.J. Hardy knocked in the game-winning RBI in the 13th inning, which is almost as many innings as the milllions of dollars the Twins gave to his replacement. Not that anyone needed reminding of this.
  • Grant Balfour's rage was rendered moot by Justin [redacted] Verlander.
  • Delmon Young will be in the ALCS again because of Justin [redacted] Verlander, meaning we have another week of observing his ridiculous weight-gain/mustache combo. He is a trench coat and a magnifying glass short of being a bumbling private eye who somehow always gets his man.
  • Kyle Lohse pitched a great game for the St. Louis Cardinals, only to be one-upped by what appeared to be a homeless math genius hitting a walk-off home run off Cards' closer Lance Lynn.

There will be two Game 5s today, because we've been good and we deserve this. Orioles/Yankees go at 4:00, Cards/Nats start at 7:30. I endorse both the Orioles and the Nationals, because I'm still mad about the Herr/Brunansky trade and to hell with the Yankees. If y'all want a game thread to keep the party going, lemme know.
