Heading into his age-36 season, that can't be a smart choice.

According to Tom Haudricourt, Ryan Dempster is looking for three years in any deal. No doubt this is a starting point to negotiate down, but three years should scare off a team like the Twin who, even if they need starters desperately, need to spend good money.

Haudricourt says:

Dempster wants three years, and even at 35 he's likely to get a three-year deal because there aren't a lot of established starting pitchers on the market.

I still think it's unlikely that he gets it, but I'm also not a guy who is willing to stick my neck out for a pitcher who will be on the thin end of his 30s the next time you blink.

Even if the Twins managed an equitable salary over three years of a contract with Dempster, how would you feel about it?
