Ron Gardenhire tells Iowa audience his opening day (for now) lineup
Not too surprising, but I think we can use this as the baseline for the spring.

Not sure why people get so twisted about this
I guess they like to get twisted

Agreed
In fact, in all cases people have asked Gardy these questions. I could understand it being different if they stood up and made a big announcement, but these types of questions are what make the Twins Caravan fun. Forward looking stuff about the season and the home team is what gets me through winter.
I don't think we can be too upset with his lineup
Willingham in LF was the one I was most worried about and it doesn’t seem to be the case.

The only surprise to me
Is Doumit at DH, which immediately makes me want to corner Gardy until he tells me whether that means he’s carrying three catchers.
Which it probably does.
That sentence is kind of creepy

Agreed
Although Butera said in his TwinsFest video that he’s going to hit .330 this year, so maybe we don’t need to be concerned.

Third game of the season vs Baltimore
Only to go 0-16 vs the Angels.
He plays that full series after Joe Mauer gets the thumb on his throwing hand jammed by JJ Hardy and has to go on the DL for 15 days. The Twins then try Ryan Doumit at catcher and the difference is night and day while batting. But his defense will lead to a whole new slew of jokes by our resident comics.

Pffffft, I believe in Drew...
Catchers gotta look out for other catchers! haha I feel like I say this alot when we are discussing Drew…

No, but he should!
haha I’d have him batting .700 in no time :P (see, he can’t bat as high as me, some of that is just natural skill:) haha ok, that sounds cocky, I had a lucky season last year (fingers crossed it continues so I’m on varsity this spring!)
"The problem with baseball is that it is not played year round" -Gaylord Perry
Then you're some kind of miracle worker
He didn’t even hit .300 in high school. If you ranked him against all the pitchers in baseball, he’d be about 20th. He’s the worst hitter in Twins history with more than 400 at bats.

haha I know, I'm just joking...
I batting like .780 last year in softball so I think I’ve joked before about being the Twins new hitting coach (maybe that was here, I don’t even remember) but I can’t hit a baseball top save my life so I’m pretty sure I couldn’t teach someone else to, much less the fact that most of it was pure luck and bad judgement by fielders

Great
Now we’ve lost the element of surprise too.

What Surprise?
This is pretty much the opening day lineup I thought we were going to get. He just switched Carroll’s and Casilla’s fielding positions.

Not really
I know I written a possible lineup about a month ago. I don’t remember where, but it was likely on a discussion on the roster.

Not really
But we can use some power near the bottom of the order. However, it depends on what kind of power Doumit has. If it is horrible, then Joe Mauer will only see his walk rate increase. In that case, we would be better off putting Drew Butera in at 4th while Mauer is the DH or 1st baseman.

Butera to protect Mauer from getting walked?

I question that too
Seriously, putting Justin Morneau in the 4th slot is better than putting him anywhere else, because he protects Mauer. My scenario has Doumit batting blind which is the only way to make Butera look better.

If Mournea is healthy
Why would we want to get him fewer at bats by moving him down the lineup? So there’s “more power” that comes to the plate less often?
Mine
1. Denard Span
2.Mikko Koivu
3. Joe Mauer
4. Kevin Love
5. Adrian Peterson
6. Nick Bjugstad
7.Dany Heatley
8. Ricky Rubio
9. Kyle Rau

Ricky Rubio's power is about as high as Revere's and he comes with way worse speed on defense and on the bases. I do not see the improvement here.
I would have to assume tho, that Catchers will be scared as soon as AP is on second. Any throw home to nab Peterson will be dropped in fear of getting bulldozed.

Rubio would be able to split any infielders easily
RIP FirstRowSports - Always Stolen But Never Forgotten
Certainly better than this:
1. Revere
2 .Tolbert
3. Cuddyer
4. Valencia
5. Tosoni
6. Hughes
7. Plouffe
8. Nishioka
9. Butera

Well
It was nice knowing you Jesse.
Seriously though, I believe that was one of the 153 combos used by Gardy last season.

Yeah, we saw way too much of this lineup last season
It’ll be nice to see some guys batting over .200 this year

Lineup?
More like cluster of guys that will one day probably be good minor league coaches….and Nishioka
Remember, remember the seventh of November.
Valencia is a solid major leaguer
Cuddyer would have been solid at the time had he not been playing through an injury in August. That was the period where he went 3/31 with the three hits being singles the other way, and zero walks.
