Keith Law ranks Twins Farm System #14
This article is for ESPN Insider subscribers only, so if you are an Insider you can find it here:
Otherwise, here is the excerpt from Law on his reasoning for placing the Twins at #14 in the league:
"I pick on these guys for taking low-ceiling college arms with great control, but they have quietly mixed in some interesting high school bats and added a few high-impact Latin American prospects."
I tend to agree with Law, and if you asked me to guess beforehand, I would have said lower than 14. I only say this because the Twins are a prime example of a team that has a lot of talent in the minor leagues, but not much above High-A ball. Players like Miguel Sano, Eddie Rosario, and Levi Michael project to be high-ceiling players with loads of talent, but are years away fro making an appearance in the big leagues. Then you have prospects like Kyle Gibson and Alex Wimmers, two pitchers who were top prospects in the organization at a point in time. Gibson unfortunately underwent Tommy John surgery last season and I wouldn't expect him to be in the majors until 2014, maybe mid-2103. Wimmers also had a rough year, losing his command completely at one point. He finished on a high note at the end of the minor league season, but again, he is still probably a couple years away from making an appearance in the majors. He will need to show that the results we saw at the end of last season will be consistent, along with increased velocity and development of his off-speed stuff.
We were all impressed with the performance we saw in September from Chris Parmelee. However, nobody really projected him that high and he wasn't considered to be a high-graded player in many respects. I am hoping just like everyone else that the last month of the season wasn't a fluke from him, and he shows in Spring Training that he deserves to make the club.
Baseball analysts still seem to be very high on Joe Benson. We didn't see much production out of him like we did with Parmelee in September, but that is probably due to being rushed from AA to the majors. I would expect Benson to be placed in Rochester to start the season, and being the first one to be called up if an outfielder goes down.

Seems about right
The Twins don’t have much as far as high end. I’d even argue that Sano is the only real high impact good chance to be an all star type in the Twins system. However they are loaded with the next tier of guys. Lots of guys who should have good careers in the outfield and on the mound. If you look at Sickels rankings I don’t think the Twins have a single A level prospect but a plethora of B/C+ guys.
Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?
