MINNEAPOLIS, MN - SEPTEMBER 28: Trevor Plouffe #24, Luke Hughes #38 and Brian Dinkelman #26 of the Minnesota Twins celebrate a win with a walk-off hit by Plouffe in the ninth inning against the Kansas City Royals on September 28, 2011 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In a somewhat surprise move this afternoon, the Minnesota Twins have designated utility player Luke Hughes for assignment. With Jason Marquis being activated for his start against the Yankees tonight the Twins needed to find a roster spot, and the front office went with Hughes.
Their only other realistic option would have been Sean Burroughs. Both players are out of options.
Hughes did say he was surprised by the move, and it's hard to blame him. But hopefully he finds a home, and of course we wish him luck no matter where he lands.
Hughes the Force, Luke.
