There was a great article in a recent SI discussing the rise of the Washington Nationals: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1197607/index.htm?eref=mySI
It seems like the approach that management took in the Nats' case is one that Terry Ryan & Co. should look to implement with the Twinks. Grow the organization from the inside with solid prospects. Though, I will admit, I do worry a little bit about the philosophy of evaluating talent. When it comes to pitchers, the Nats seem to emphasize power pitchers who are out there looking to embarrass hitters. I am not sure that is the Twinks style. We seem to be in love with cats who throw strikes and pitch to contact. It would be excellent if we could grab Mark Appel or, if he gets taken by the Stros, Lucas Giolito (little worried about his injury) with the 2nd overall pick. Either one of those guys has a good chance of being a top flight power pitcher in the mold of a Jordan Zimmerman.
