The Next Move

I'm writing this as the Twins are playing the Brewers on Sunday, so I don't know exactly how the game will turn out, but I think it is safe to say that Jason Marquis should no longer be making his regular turn in the rotation. He's a ineffective veteran on a youth-movement team, he's not a battler like Pavano, and he's already gotten off to a shaky start in the clubhouse and with the management staff. At no time this season have I liked what I have seen from him.

My choice to take his spot in the starting mix...

Anthony Swarzak could be neatly slotted in the rotation after his relief stint today (no matter how long he lasts). When the Twins return home on Friday night, he's the guy I want to see on the mound against the Tigers...not Mr. Marquis.

Pick a card, any card, when it comes to Thursday's start (Blackburn vs. Liriano vs. ???), but I'm all in favor of jettisoning Marquis in favor of more youth. There is nothing worse than a start like today, when we had all the momentum in the world coming in and the starter didn't give us a chance to win. That can't happen on a regular basis, and Marquis has shown us very little hope.
