Indians 7, Twins 1; Pavano Pummeled, Cleveland Cruises

Your Twins offensive hero of the night!

On a night when former staff ace Johan Santana made history in Queens, becoming the first New York Metropolitan to ever throw a no-hitter, current staff ace Carl Pavano continued to struggle, getting chased in the 4th inning of a 7-1 loss.

Pavano, who has been battling shoulder issues the last few weeks, may be headed for a stint on the DL, because it just isn't clicking right now. Lonnie Chisenhall opened the scoring by drilling a 2-out, 2-run homer in the second, and the wheels came completely off in the 4th, with Jason Kipnis' grand slam making the score 7-0. Pavano's line for the night: 3.2 IP, 6 ER, 9 H, 1 BB. For the season, he's 2-5 with an ERA of 6.00.

After the game, this Tweet from the Strib's Joe Christensen summed up the state of play:

Pavano stopped short of saying he needs to go on the DL with his right shoulder issue but knows he's hurting the team. Decision tomorrow.

Elsewhere, the Twins continue to have no clue how to beat Derek Lowe, who once again stymied Minnesota, giving up just one run on five hits in 6.1 IP. Not much else to say about this one. An uninspiring effort all the way around. I guess the TC hats will be back, though, so there's that.

Studs: Brian Dozier, who got the sole Twins RBI, and Anthony Swarzak, who mopped up after Pavano and preserved the rest of the bullpen somewhat by giving Minnesota 3 and 1/3 innings of scoreless relief (Brian Duensing pitched the 8th).

Duds: Pavano, the offense.

Enjoy your weekend, everybody.
