Explanation on Ben Revere

Stay connected for news and updates

Hello. All you sabermetric and statistical nerds out there, this one is for you. After Ben Revere's hot start following his call up earlier this season. I thought that if he could hold course, he could qualify for the Batting title at the end of the season. Over the last month or so, I have been looking at the American League batting stats on ESPN and watching as Revere's number of at bats climbed closer to whoever was on that list with the minimum amount of at bats. Sure enough, Revere now has more at bats than David Ortiz and according to ESPN, Ortiz qualifies for the batting title- but Revere doesn't.

Could someone please explain to me how Ben Revere doesn't qualify for the batting title despite having more official at bats than David Ortiz, who does?

I always thought that throughout the course of the season, there was a set number of at bats that a player needed to have in order to qualify for the batting title.
