A quick promotion for the Twins' first two draft pics this year after just 27 games and 88 ABs for Buxton and 16.2 innings for Berrios. Berrios straight up dominated GCL in the small sampling of innings; he pitched to an ERA of 1.08 and FIP of 0.50 with a K/9 of 14.58 while only walking 1.62 per 9 (K:BB of 9.00!). However, Buxton hit .216/.324/.466/.789. While he posted an ISO of .250 (better than Miguel Sano did in the GCL), Buxton showed a penchant for whiffery- striking out in over 25% of his PA's. Additionally he has yet to turn his 80 run tool in to SB's posting a very poor 4:3 SB:CS ratio (57%). With only a .216 average and k'ing that much I would have like to have seen Buxton spend the rest of the season in the GCL and prove that he can make consistent contact with wood bats. These are very much an unusual set of moves for the Twins as they promote very conservatively. While I have many issues with how the Twins handle college prospects, I do think a conservative approach is good when it comes to high school players. I think Berrios should have no problem with the Appy League, but I fear Buxton may be over his head. Look the Byron to continue hitting the long ball the hitter's paradise of Elizabethton, but he is still very raw and the key to his success will be cutting down on the whiffs and hitting more liners.
