Nishioka given outright release at his request. Twins off hook for $3.25 million he was slated to make in 2013.
The Twins released a statement this morning announcing the release of SS Tsuyoshi Nishioka. Nishioka asked for the release, and is walking away from a guaranteed $3.25 million for 2013. This is definitely a positive development for the team, as this is more money to spend in the off-season (yes, someone has already made the "That's enough to get Jason Marquis back" joke). Probably a good development for Nishi, too, who clearly had some major, major issues here.
