Twins Outright Cole De Vries, Shairon Martis, Josh Roenicke, Clete Thomas

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sport

The Twins have started the long process of cleaning house for 2014.

In the first of many off-season roster changes, the Minnesota Twins have outrighted four players to Triple-A Rochester: pitchers Cole De Vries, Shairon Martis, and Josh Roenicke, and outfielder Clete Thomas.

De Vries and Martis made their appearances during September's expanded roster season. Roenicke, who the Twins claimed off of waivers from the Rockies last November, spent the entire season in the Minnesota bullpen. Thomas was called up to replace Chris Colabello, and the Twins designated Tyler Robertson for assignment as a result.

De Vries, Martis, or Thomas can be claimed by another team as they've been placed on outright waivers. Roenicke, meanwhile, could elect free agency instead because he has more than three years of service time under his belt.

With these moves the Twins have cleared four spots on their 40-man roster, which now stands at 36.
