It's not very shocking that Twins top prospects Bryon Buxton and Alex Meyer made the list of top 20 players in this year's AFL, given the amount that has already been said about their talent. These days in Twins Territory, however, we have to milk this kind of good news. Who knows when we'll get more?
The list was created by some team members from MLBPipeline.com along with some scouts who covered the fall league. They asked themselves: If you were building a team, who would you most want based on what you saw in the AFL this year?
Byron Buxton came in at #1. Shocker, I know. Buxton only got to play in 12 games before he was shut down due to injury. He batted .212 with 3 home runs, 2 stolen bases, and 5 walks. His raw talent was still so apparent he topped the list.
Alex Meyer also made the list, coming in at #5. Meyer pitched in 7 games, giving up a total of 20 hits, 9 earned runs, and 7 walks with 28 (!) strikeouts over 26 innings. Scouts are particularly impressed with his slider.
The other Twins players to take part in the AFL this year who did not make the top 20 list were Eddie Rosario, Trevor May, Max Kepler, Zack Jones, and A.J. Achter.
