Twins Looking for One More Starting Pitcher

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Nobody is surprised. But it continues to show how aggressive Minnesota is being.

The Winter Meetings are winding up, but that's not stopping Terry Ryan from doing everything he can to add another starting pitcher. Minnesota is making their desires widely known, spreading the net as wide as possible.

Neither of those statements merit surprise, but this is as aggressive as I have ever seen the Twins. It's an interesting prospect, to see Ryan and one of the most slow-moving organizations in the league become the hunter. This isn't an aspect we've seen before from the front office.

The bad news, though, is that it seems the impression is that the Twins are falling away in the Garza sweepstakes leaderboard.

While the club has been uncharacteristically aggressive, the move from $49 million over four years to potentially $80 over five is still a gigantic leap. Even for me, I'm not sure I'd go that far - even for Matt Garza.

Hopefully that doesn't mean the team over compensates by signing Mike Pelfrey or Bronson Arroyo to multi-year offers. Being the hunter and being aggressive means moving quickly, and as we said - that's not something we're accustomed to seeing. Hopefully they don't move too fast for their own good.
