Fast Reaction: Tigers 4, Twins 3

Leon Halip

When Mike Pelfrey gave Miguel Cabrera an easy take for ball four in the bottom of the sixth, Cabrera gave Pelfrey a bit of lip. It was a bit of attitude, and as satisfying as it would be to think about plunking him his next time up for running his mouth for no real reason, you actually can't blame him for getting at least a little fired up. Great hitters don't like it when you take the bat out of their hands.

Prince Fielder took an uppercut swing at the very next pitch and launched it into the stratosphere, turning a 3-1 lead into a 4-3 deficit. The Twins, literally, did nothing after the Fielder bomb; nine up and nine down.

The Twins drop back to .500, and Mike Pelfrey continues to search for some consistency and a way to get the outs that he needs.

Bullet Point Highlights
  • Josh Willingham gave the Twins a 1-0 lead when he hit his fifth homer of the year in the first inning.
  • Joe Mauer was 0-for-4 tonight, and is now 2 for his last 29. He was blistering hot for a stretch, and now he's ice cold. Let's hope he can turn it around tomorrow.
  • Oswaldo Arcia slapped a double down the left field line but, upon further review, I have to grudgingly admit that the sometimes gruesome crew on MLB Network's MLB Tonight was actually correct: Arcia lucked into that one. We've seen him swing it like he means it. And this was not one of those swings. Still, Arcia was 2-for-3, picked up his seventh RBI and his first MLB double.
  • Brian Duensing and Josh Roenicke combined for 2.2 innings of scoreless baseball. That bullpen doesn't seem to be doing too badly, right?
