Royals 9, Twins 8: Errors and Defense Wipe Out Homers from Morneau, Plouffe, Thomas

Hannah Foslien

Twins split four-game set with Royals.

A win today and the Twins would have moved past the Royals into third place in the American League Central Division. But the Twins didn't play like they deserved that honor, and instead fall a game and a half behind the third place Royals. Who, really, only deserve the spot by not being as terrible as Minnesota or Chicago. Yet.

Ervin Santana and Kevin Correia were the version of themselves that people expected coming into 2013: hittable and, in general, just not all that effective. Between them they struck out eight, walked eight, allowing 12 hits and nine runs. Certainly Correia didn't get any help from his defense, but he didn't do himself any favors.

Justin Morneau, Trevor Plouffe and Clete Thomas all went yard for the Twins, but late homers from David Lough and Eric Hosmer were just enough to push Kansas City into the win column. On the plus side, Justin's monster bash moves him past Kirby Puckett into fifth place all time on the Twins career home run list.

Fun game. Frustrating results.
