Justin Morneau Passes Kirby Puckett for Fifth Place on Twins Career Home Run List

Hannah Foslien

It took Justin longer than we thought it would this season, but as of today he owns fifth place all on his own.

When Justin Morneau connected on a 1-1 fastball from Tom Tim Collins in the seventh inning of this afternoon's game, a couple of things happened. First, momentum started to swing as the bomb pulled the Twins to within a run and help them to tie the game later in the frame. Second, and just a bit more impressively, Morneau passed franchise legend and Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett for fifth place on the franchise career home run list.

The home run helps push Morneau's slugging percentage to .476 this month, a drastic improvement over the .379 mark in April and the .387 mark in May. For the month Justin is batting .298/.344/.476.

Now with 208 career bombs, Justin's next target on the Twins all-time home run list is Tony Oliva with 220 homers. While another 12 home runs is certainly achievable this season if Justin stays healthy, the real question is whether or not he'll finish the season in Minnesota.
