Twins 4, Angels 3: Meat Thomas saves the day!

Harry How

Clete Thomas goes yard and saves the day. The hungry Sam Deduno comes through again, and Baby Jesus went 3 for 4.

Despite being 6-for-41 this month with no extra-base hits, and 13 strikeouts. Clete Thomas broke out in a big way last night, going 2-4 with a HR, and two RBI, while also saving the day with his grab over the left field wall in the eight inning. After Howie Kendrick hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning getting the Halos on the board, it was the Twins doubling them up in the next half. Clete Thomas hit a double that scored Collabello tying up the game, Aaron Hicks would follow the same tune doubling scoring Thomas, making it a 2-1 lead for the Twins. After a Mike Trout RBI in the 3rd inning tied up the ball game, once again, it was Meat Thomas coming through. His solo blast in the fourth inning for his fourth of the year made it a 3-2 lead. Doug Bernier collected his first RBI of his career on his first professional hit at the ripe age of 33 in that inning as well extending the lead.

When Jesse Crain left for Chicago in 2011, it was clear that we may never see another Superman krypton necklace again. Deduno who looked a bit more like the 2012 Deduno yesterday as he did allow 5 walks a season high. In the 7th inning, Hank Conger led off with a triple. Yet the cool Sam Deduno (our superman) struck out Erick Aybar for out number one with the top of the order due up. Deduno had to face J.B. Shuck and Mike Trout. Deduno took that krypton necklace put a big bite into it and delivered another huge strikeout, following with a ground out to Trout to end the inning. Casey Fien allowed an earned run for just second time since May 26th in his appearance in the 8th inning. Glen Perkins came on for a four-out save and despite allowing a single that scored Howie Kendrick making it one run ball game, it was Clete Thomas robing pinch-hitter Chris Iannetta in the 8th preserving the lead. Perk would allow a couple one-out singles putting ducks on the pond for Albert Pujols and Howie Kendrick. However the all-star pitcher struck out both Pujols and Kendrick swinging to end the game despite a shaky perfromance.
