Twins vs. White Sox: News and Notes

Brian Kersey

If you missed the White Sox, fear not - they're back again already!

White Sox Notes

  • Since last week, when the Twins were in Chicago, the Sox - rather confusingly - cooled off the white-hot Tigers, winning two out of three at US Cellular. Monday, Sale threw a complete game, giving up nine hits but just two runs; Tuesday, Avisail Garcia drove in two and scored the other two as the Sox won 4-3 in 11 innings.
  • Even though the Twins took three of four from the Whiteys, it was Chicago's first winning homestand in three months, as they went 6-4.
  • On June 1, Adam Dunn was hitting .156. Since then, he's batted .292 with 15 homers and a .933 OPS, which makes it one of the better stretches of his career.
  • Paul Konerko didn't play Wednesday, but that was because he is old, not because he is hurt.

Twins Notes

  • The Twins scored 23 runs consecutively on homers over the weekend, the longest streak in baseball history. This both speaks to a slight power uptick - they're up to 12th in the AL in homers - and to the team being completely and totally unable to get a hit with a runner in scoring position.
  • Ryan Doumit will be activated from the brain-injury DL tomorrow, according to Phil Miller. Chris Colabello, Chris Herrmann, or Wilkin Ramirez will get sent down to make room on the roster.
  • Ron Gardenhire thinks Deduno might be getting tired, which I suppose is not too good a sign for his future with the Twins.
  • The Twins have 13 pitchers on the roster. I know seven relievers pitched yesterday, and I know that the Twins play basically every day this month, but I will still say that this seems like utter nonsense to me.
