Deduno's ability to strike batters out seems to be directly proportional to how well he can command his pitches. If he's wild, it feels like he's more likely to get a few additional swing-and-misses. Or maybe that's just me. It's worth studying. Either way - Deduno has still been the Twins' best starter this season. It'd be great to see him get back on track with a strong effort this afternoon.
Santiago is a 30th-round draft pick. And looks like he could be a good pitcher. But as will all young pitchers, especially late-round selections, it's going to take a couple of years of repeat performances before people can believe in him as a guy who could help lead Chicago's rotation into the future. Right now you have to admit, he looks pretty damned good.
