Twins 5, Indians 1

SAM - David Maxwell

A quality start AND some hits with runners in scoring position? Who are these guys?

The game began with a painfully familiar opening.  The Twins loaded the bases on Ubaldo Jimenez to open the game, only to see Josh Willingham, Ryan Doumit and Trevor Plouffe all strike out.  And when Cleveland scored on two singles and a wild pitch in the bottom of the frame, you would have been forgiven for switching over to the Seahawks/Packers on CBS.

But!

The Twins continued to pound Jimenez, capturing the lead in the top of the second on the strength of Pedro Florimon and Chris Herrmann doubles (Herrmann's second in as many innings).  They would never trail again on the way to a 5-1 victory.

Samuel Deduno was improved after recent struggles, putting up a quality start despite that early wildness and three walks in his last inning of work in the sixth.  His finishing line was 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 4 BB and 6 K.  Brian Duensing was fantastic in relief, pitching 2 2/3 stress-free innings.  Casey Fien came on to get the final out.

Minnesota added some cushion in the 7th thanks to a 2-out, 2-run, opposite field (!!) double from Willingham.  Another run scored on a double play in the 8th to account for the game's final run.

Robot Roll Call

The SB Nation thingamajig wasn't working for me.  I'll just assume kenzertz and myjah weird twitter were doing the work.
