Sunday Night Twins Notes: Arcia, Turner, Rosario, Farris

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sport

Happy Sunday!

I think most schools are officially closed for Monday because it's just that [redacted[ cold outside. Stay warm and think of spring training, it's only a few weeks away. Here are a few newsworthy bits from the last few days.

Oswaldo Arcia Staying in Venezuela

On Friday, the website El Abonado reported that Oswaldo Arcia would be delayed in joining the Eagles in their round robin tournament due to a Twins-related event in the States. Arcia was due to return Monday, January 6, but was hoping he'd be able to return later.

Arcia is dealing with your agent the right not to attend the [Twins-related] event, or to do so, joining the Raptor team as soon as possible in the postseason.

Why "Raptor" in that quote? I don't know. Blame Google Translate.

It looks like the issue was resolved fairly quickly, however. Just a couple hours later, El Abonado had another report posted where Arcia seemed to have made a decision to stay.

As indicated, the Twins did not want to play in the round robin. "Minnesota did not want to play but I will be convinced and to 20. I had to travel to USA on 6 but I'm staying," he said.

TwinsFest isn't until the end of the month, but you can understand the Twins not wanting Arcia to continue playing ball. Spring training is just around the corner and, while being in game shape and seeing live action is a good thing, players also need rest. Major League Baseball is a long season.

By the way, if you read the comments in those articles or the responses to the tweets, not everyone is a fan of Arcia. Which is interesting, because the guy is pretty talented.

Twins Have Some Interest in Justin Turner

This according to a tweet I only just ran into today.

Turner, 29, was a seventh-round pick by the Reds in 2006. He's bounced around, getting fleeting opportunities in the Majors by virtue of his versatility: he can play second, third, and short. He has a nice track record as a minor league hitter (.308/.373/.441 in 2245 plate appearances), but it doesn't look like that will ever translate to the next level. But he could be a productive option for Rochester.

Eddie Rosario's Suspension is Official

After first hearing about this back on November 19, the word is now official: Rosario will miss 50 games after testing positive for a banned substance. On the plus side it wasn't a performance enhancer of any kind, since it seems the drug was of a "recreational nature".

The general consensus seems to be that the drug was marijuana. I don't think there's much to say about that, other than "see you in June, Eddie."

Twins Sign Eric Farris

Ladies and gentlemen...we got him.

Farris was a fourth-round pick by Milwaukee in 2007 and, between 2011 and 2012, combined for ten plate appearances in 14 games. Historically he's been more of a second baseman but can play left field as well. In 2013, his age-27 season, Farris hit .248/.301/.312 in 449 plate appearances for the Red Wings.

That's all for tonight, folks. Stay warm, and we'll see you tomorrow.
