Miguel Sano to Have Season-Ending Tommy John's Surgery

Miguel Sano's elbow, in better days. - Rob Carr

Remember when we told you Miguel Sano was "sidelined" with elbow soreness? About that...

I've got good news and bad news. The good news is that you won't have to read "When Will the Twins Call Up Miguel Sano?" think pieces all season. The bad news is Miguel Sano won't be playing at all in the 2014 season.

Sano has been bothered by his elbow since last season playing in AA New Britain. During the Dominican Winter League he felt a sharp pain in his elbow, at which time team physicians and an outside opinion decided the best thing for him would be rest and rehab. Apparently all of their opinions suck, because Sano felt an "odd sensation" after a throw during Thursday's inter-squad game, didn't play in yesterday's Spring Training Opener, and is now getting Tommy John's to repair a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament.

For a position player, Tommy John's comes with a six to nine month rehabilitation process. Per Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press, Twins assistant GM Rob Antony said Sano should be swinging a bat again in four months, and back on the field in eight months. That means maybe Sano could possibly play in the Dominican Winter League (no, stop crying, that's supposed to be GOOD news!).

Hopefully you took the advice of RandBall's Stu. It makes the news much more palatable.

Better luck next year.
