Pre-Game Notes
- This will be Deduno's third start since making the move from the bullpen. The first appearance was shakier than the second, but this is a good opportunity for him to up his game: no Mariner has seen Deduno in more than nine plate appearances, and as the collection of talent currently in Seattle owns a .544 OPS against him.
- Southpaw Roenis Elias is a 25-year old rookie who has been pretty impressive, notching 42 strikeouts in 46.1 innings. There are command issues, but like Deduno, Elias has the pure stuff to get away with some mistakes. His offers a fastball at 91-93 with a plus curve in the upper 70s, and he'll also drop in a few changeups.
- Center fielder James Jones is someone to keep an eye on. The 25-year old rookie has raked in his 13 game career, and it's not entirely smoke. He's the owner of a .282/.363/.442 minor league line in 2161 plate appearances.
- Overall, the Seattle offense is terrible. They're averaging 4.1 runs per game and they're hitting just .232/.294/.369 as a team, but their pitching keeps them in games.
