The Minnesota Twins didn't provide Phil Hughes with much support, but he didn't need much. Hughes pitched seven strong innings to carry the Twins to a 2-1 win over the Detroit Tigers on Friday.

Kurt Suzuki helped the Twins pull ahead for the duration in the seventh inning. Chris Parmelee singled to get on base in the seventh. He then went from first to second on a single by Danny Santana and later scored on the two run home run by Suzuki.

Justin Verlander was charged with the loss. He lasted just seven innings, walked two, struck out five, and allowed two runs.

Twins closer Glen Perkins put away the final three outs to record the save.

The Tigers managed to score one run in the ninth inning on an RBI double by Alex Avila.
