Most teams like to move quickly with their top draft picks. I don't think we thought the Twins would move quite so quickly. Just a few minutes ago it was announced that the Twins had signed Nick Gordon, their first round and fifth overall pick in the MLB draft.
While it was initially unclear how much the Twins had signed Gordon for, sources seem to think that it will be for slot value.
Nick Gordon signed for the slot value at No. 5, source says. #mntwins— Mike Berardino (@MikeBerardino) June 9, 2014
Slot value for the fifth overall pick this season was $3,851,000. If that's actually what the deal is, you have to be happy with that. Having your most expensive draft pick signed for slot makes signing the rest of the top ten that much easier.
The Twins have announced a press conference for 3:00pm. We'll have more later if it's anything other than the standard announcement.
