Phil Hughes gave up a season high seven runs tonight as all Twins Fans' dreams suddenly turned into a pumpkin. The first four of those runs were on homers by Carlos Beltran and newly-called-up Zelous Wheeler (talk about a freaking name). It was Wheeler's first MLB hit.
Unlike the 8 strong innings Hughes put up against the Yankees in June, Hughe gave up 7 runs on 8 hits and 1 walk through his 6.1 innings pitched. Yankee's ace and Japanese Super-Star Masahiro Tanaka wasn't masterful against the Twins either, giving up 4 runs on 9 hits over 7 innings, but it was enough to get the job done.
In the good news pile, Chris Parmelee extended his hitting streak to 13 games with his RBI double in the first inning. Eduardo Escobar continued to be en fuego with an RBI hit in the seventh inning as well. And, um, er... it was a beautiful day? Ack, I mean a good day?
