Bonser to Tampa Bay?

Thanks to RJ from DRaysBay for the heads up.

Boof Bonser to the Rays?  If you're willing to believe what someone else says that Boof says at a golf tournament, it might be so.  Check out the Rays site for some good start up conversation; they mention likely targets, notably outfielders Rocco Baldelli (talented but a history of injuries) or Jonny Gomes (power prospect), as return payment for the pitcher with the coolest most interesting first name in baseball.

Lol
I love blog comments. Boof, Garza, and Neshek for Delmon Young was suggested. It's funny how much fans of a team overvalue their own players, since Garza alone would probably get that done.

Anyway, that entry seems to be pretty unreliable and I don't expect to see anything with Bonser happen, though Bonser for Gomes would be fair for both sides and I'd like that deal.

Replace Nick Punto.

Bonser
I would think he'd be better as part of a package.  He's a good bet for a team that knows they're already getting one quality player and Bonser would be a good bet for an added bonus.  I'd rather wait to move Bonser anyways as I see him doing well in the first half on next season.  Otherwise a move to the bullpen could be in order (which could work really well actually)
P.S. if Kelly Theiser reports again that a pitcher had a bad start because he didn't keep the ball down, I might have to kill myself.

Yeah
Other sources indicate that the Twins will not trade pitching if they trade Santana. So I tend to think this is baseless. I personally would not like Bonser for Gomes though. I'm not as high on Gomes as others on this board.

Gomes
So we'd be giving up a solid-ish (providing last year's obnoxious HR rate wasn't a portent of things to come), cheap starter for a 26-yo DH that can smack 25-30 dingers a year with a solid if not exceptional OBP?

Sounds decent, I guess. I'd suspect that this sort of trade would depend on what the Twins' coaches/scouts see in both players in terms of fixable flaws, as the numbers don't really seem to make a strong argument for one or the other.

Can't say I'd be too broken up to see one of our good-but-not-necessary pitchers dealt for either Gomes or Baldelli...seems like a step in the right direction to right the silly offense/pitching imbalance the Twins org has at the higher levels.

Twins should trade Boof...
I don't know if he will go, but the Twins should try and move him...

I'm not against this
I suspect the Twins are keeping all of their options open right now.  I wouldn't be surprised in the least if they are talking about some type of Boof/Slowey/Blackburn deal for Young and maybe Elijah Dukes or something like that...  Not sure they'd bite, but I suspect they are at least talking.  If they could spin those 3 for a CF and a DH, we wouldn't be bad off.  I'm not saying they'd do it, but they would be foolish to not be exploring options.

Iwamura?
The Twins expressed regret last year that they did not sign Iwamura. They were quite impressed by him. Considering that the Rays have the best third base prospect waiting for an opportunity, I think they are far more likely to deal Iwamura than Young. Young is part of the future core of the team.

What would it take to get Iwamura? Bonser and a prospect such as Mullins ought to do.

I just clicked onto this thread so I could say the Twins might want this guy too.  Maybe the Twins throw in Rincon to get the eal done.

Rincon would likely be included too.
I wouldn't be shocked to see Rincon and Boof in a deal.  But nothing will happen on this until after the Santana trade.  Gotta get the big pieces taken care of first, and then figure out the rest.

Debunked
LEN3 can't get any sort of confirmation on this or some weird Morneau for Ervin Santana + Casey Kotchman rumor.
