Community Projection - Michael Cuddyer

[What is this?]

2006 was quite a year for Mr. Cuddyer.  What's in store for '07?

As usual, if you're submitting a projection (and please do so), just make a comment including your projected plate appearances, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging average, home runs, stolen bases, and caught stealing.  Discussion/suggestions encouraged, and thanks to those who have been letting their opinions be known.

[If you still have something to say about someone whose turn has already come up, go ahead and speak up at the appropriate page.

Previous projections:
Joe Mauer
Mike Redmond
Justin Morneau
Luis Castillo
Nick Punto
Jason Bartlett

I'll say...
650 PA, .270/.350/.510, 25 HR, 3 SB, 2 CS

I think he loses a lot of his injury risk now that he's moved out of the infield for good.  This is a lot closer to Hunter's projection than I thought it would be, but I'm pretty comfortable with it.

I'm
This is a good one, but I'm not totally sure how to project this one.  I'll say he repeats last year.  He very well could have even more protection this year.

660 PA, .280/.365/.510  26 HR, 44 2B, 5 SB, 1 CS

I see Cuddyer as kind of being a beefed up version of Hunter with some better plate discipline, but without the speed element of his game.  I say that specifically referencing Cuddyer's high strikeout numbers.  THose high K numbers really caused some streakiness over last season.  Hunter is always really streaky as well.  The high strikeout numbers will always make consistency hard for Cuddyer from month to month, but I'm hoping that Cuddyer, with his talent, can be like Huter and turn in consistent numbers from year to year, if not month to month.

I think there are pretty equal chances that Cuddyer will be a bit more consistent and cut a long slump out of his last season and put up much better overall numbers and that he could slip on some of the power.

Baseball is great because you cant take a knee or kill the clock. You gotta put the ball over the plate and give the other guy his damn shot E Weaver abridged

I'll say...
... he does just about what he did last year.

640 PA
.285/.365/.510
25 HR
5 SB
1 CS

Batting between Mauer and Morneau is a great place for him, and I think last year really showed what he is capable of with regular playing time and a consistent position in the field.

Wow...
You guys are both damn good.  Exactly the same for me too, but I'll go 28 HR's.

Cuddy
Let's go with:

638 PA
.279/.352/.519
29 HR
4 SB, 2 CS

Better BA
My only adjustment is in the BA. Cuddyer was a .300 hitter in the minors before he came to the big club and got bounced around a lot. Last year, I saw him make the kind of adjustments you can only make as an everyday player. In the process, he made better contact and was a bit more patient. I expect that trend to continue this year.

600 PA
.295/.350/.500 120 RBI, 110 Runs, 30 HRs, 45 2Bs, 2 3Bs, 6 SBs, 3 CS

Joe Mauer for MVP (for real).

Cuddy Bear
The thing I'm most concerned about with Cuddy is his ability to hit right-handed pitching.  He was hitting everything just before the June surge, then he really cooled off on hitting righties dipping down to .235 while Morneau was picking up the slack.  I'm expecting more maturity and a more even K/BB ratio.  This in turn will make him a .300 hitter this season.

I'm optimistic

620 PA
.302/.375/.511
31 HR
9 SB, 4 CS

Re:
I should note that he finished hitting .276 against righties in 06.

Three 30HR guys?
Does that mean the Twins will have three 30 HR guys IN ONE SEASON after not having even one in the past 20 years?
I'm all for that.  I think Cuddy, Torii and Morneau all get there...

Cuddy .280/.360/.505 30HR 125 rbi 115 runs 4sb 2cs (gets to 29 HR with two weeks left in the season and hits one on the final day)

By 2009...
we could very well have 5, with Morneau/Mauer/Cuddyer/Kubel/DH.
