Community Projection - Rondell White

[What is this?]

Like clockwork, White landed on the DL again last year.  When healthy, he hit to the tune of .321/.354/.538.  When bothered by shoulder troubles, his .182/.209/.215 tune didn't sound too pretty.  He's a .286/.339/.465 career hitter, going into his age 35 season.  Your guess is as good as mine.

As usual, if you're submitting a projection (and please do so), just make a comment including your projected plate appearances, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging average, home runs, stolen bases, and caught stealing.  Discussion/suggestions encouraged, and thanks to those who have been letting their opinions be known.

[If you still have something to say about someone whose turn has already come up, go ahead and speak up at the appropriate page.

Previous projections:
Joe Mauer
Mike Redmond
Justin Morneau
Luis Castillo
Nick Punto
Jason Bartlett]

I'll say...
350 PA, .278/.317/.433, 13 HR, 1 SB, 1 CS

I could see this turning out to be way under or way over.

I'm much more optimistic...
I think he's really out to prove something this year:

500 PA, .297/.354/.450, 22 HR, 3 sb, 3 cs

I still think he'll get hurt for a good 2-3 week stretch and have some offdsya too, hence the PA, but I really think we're going to see a BIG rebound for Mr. Bernie Mac this year.  I also think he'll be basically the full-time DH by June or so.

djskilbr...
...my projection would be almost identical to yours.  I think the Twins will have four hitters over .300 this year (Mauer, Morneau, Bartlett and Kubel), five with more than 20 homers (Morneau, Kubel, White, Hunter and Cuddyer), and another two hitters with averages over .290 (White and Castillo).  That offense will score runs.

Ya Roger...
I pretty much agree COMPLETELY with you.  My only difference is that I expect Bartlett to just miss .300 and Castillo to just get there.  That's a pretty minor difference though.

Overall, I think you pegged it.  Our offense doesn't worry me in the slightest.

White
I would think RonDL will have a pretty wide range of projections.

That said, I'll go with:

402 PA
.270/.309/.419
10 HR
1 SB, 2 CS

I'm saying it.
Full healthy season, minor injuries but nothing hampering.  Wishful thinking?  Maybe.  But when it happens, I'm going to be the one who said he called it.

550 PA
.288 AVG/ .370 OBP/ .450 SLG
18 HR
3 SB, 3 CS

I
I see no reason why he cannot replicate his career line, especially based on last season's second half.  I think any aging concerns will be mitigated by his expressed intense desire to make up for deeds left undone.

So I'll give:

475 PA (he's only reached 500 thrice in his career, and not since 1999, but I see him getting close because I think he'll DH some more).

.290/.340/.480  21 HR,  26 2B, 1 SB, 2 CS

He hasn't stolen more than one base a year since 2000, so he's not getting any more there.  All his SB attempts were probably failed hit and runs.  He'll get one out dumb bad luck turned good this year.

Baseball is great because you cant take a knee or kill the clock. You gotta put the ball over the plate and give the other guy his damn shot E Weaver abridged

Ubelmann...
Just curious: are you going to compile a "community" projection for the full team when we are done with this?  IE, a basic average of everyone's?

by djskilbr on Mar 9, 2007 3:54 PM EST reply actions

Yup...
...that's the idea.  I figure I'll do all the players at the same time, though.

Cool man, thanks..
I figured that was the idea, just wasn't sure.

I sure will
I've been watching the site since it started, but I just recently decided to comment for myself.
