Star-divide

Well, with the Johan trade this week, it certainly throws a little bit of a wrench into our prospect lists, huh?

I figure, let's get this #25 prospect figured out. I have an idea for how to figure out where Guerra, Mulvey and Humber would fit in this chart. Let's not forget that Carlos Gomez is not rookie eligible. HE played in 58 games in 2007 in the big leagues, so he doesn't classify for this list. I will start my process for determining where the new guys fit in shortly.

Went with Mullins...
...who had about as good a year as anyone in the organization last year (if you forget about a couple starts at Rochester).  We need to remember that he began the year in Ft. Myers, was awesome at New Britain, then really struggled wthen moved up to Rochester after a handful of starts at AA.  May have been to much, to fast for this young man.  But with what he did at the other two stops last year, this lefty certainly should be in the Top 25.

Personally, I have to wait a bit more on Mijares until we know more about his injury.  Otherwise, he also should have been higher than this based on his talent.

Mullins
was an easy choice for me on this one for the reasons Roger gave.
Mijares will likely miss most of the 2008 season, so it's hard to get too excited about him right now.

I went with Mullins
I think he'll be a major leaguer in the next couple of years. And he has the make-up to be a solid back-of-the-rotation starter for a number of years.

40 man...
Is there a chance Mijares comes off the 40 man roster? With the twins adding two (I assume) guys that need to be on the roster and only Santana leaving, who loses his spot for one of the New York guys? I wouldn't say Mijares normally, but after the crash...

60-day DL
I wouldn't be surprised if they put him on the 60-day, which clears a roster spot.

Mijares...
...should go on the 60-day list, whenever the Twins can do that.  I know that at the end of the year all the disabled list players must get added back to the 40-man roster before the Rule V draft.  My question is:  Do they have to wait until spring training is over and their final rosters are set to place a player on the 60-day list?  Or are their different rules also if it is a non-baseball injury like this?  Will become a concern if/when they sign another free agent; like a #1 pitcher or centerfielder?

After all the ...
...transactions this winter, the Twins were at 39 on the 40 man roster.  Santana comes off, Gomez and Humber go on...so we will be at 40 with Guerra and Mulvey not needing to be added for a couple years.

man...
I did lose track, what an offseason. Thanks Roger.

P.S. if you do ever find out about when you can add a player to the 60 day, let me know. I thought it was at the end of ST, but that may be more of a guess than anything.

correct
It is the end of spring training. It might be a week before the end of spring training, but it is in that range. That is an easy choice for the Twins.

What the 60-day gives you
You can't put a guy on the 60-day until the end of spring training. But if the twins want to claim someone off waivers, they can use Mijares' spot to do that.
