Johan on SI Baseball Preview cover. Is this painful for anyone else?

I'm sorry, he just looks way too happy. I already miss that bright smiling face. Hopefully that isn't the SI jinx on Johan.

This is going to be the year from hell. All hope for fun and charisma is upon the shoulders of the dirt eater himself, REDMOND SMASH!!!

Of all the years that this team could use a veteran clubhouse guy, this is the year. I hate to say this, but even cheez-dip/jelly-donut man could have been a benefit for the kids in the dugout.

Barf.
Yes.  Every time I see Johan smiling in a Mets uniform...a little piece of my soul dies.  I can only imagine how much more painful it would be if it were a different NY uniform.

Is that him?
Or is he photoshopped onto a body?

Eh...
I just don't care anymore. Maybe that will change when I watch him pitch his 1st game with the Mets.

And yup, that is one big smile. I'd be smiling just as big if I had all those millions of dollars.

I'm just ready to follow the Twins for another season. Johan isn't a Twin anymore so it doesn't matter too much to me.

SI curse?
that would be funny

Oh, I hope not.
I'm going to get a charge out of watching Santana pitch in the NL.  He not be our pitcher anymore, but as far as I'm concerned, he'll always be our Johan.

always be "our" Johan...
I wish I could feel that way but I can't. If he was our Johan he'd still be pitching for the Twins.

He is his own Johan and that is why he did what he thought was best for himself regardless of how it made his fans in MN feel.

Oh Man
Oh man, come on, too soon.
Baseball is great because you cant take a knee or kill the clock. You gotta put the ball over the plate and give the other guy his damn shot E Weaver abridged

Monroe??
Why in the hell would Mr. Nohitoverpaid Monroe be on the list of potential clubhouse leaders?  The others all make sense, but Monroe hasn't even swung the bat in a game for the Twins yet.
Anyone want Jose Vidro? Please?

Yeah,
Lamb and Everett are far more likely candidates to provide some leadership. Or Nathan.

But maybe Monroe provides more "hope for fun and charisma" than the others?

Veteran status
Monroe is a veteran on a team devoid of veteran leadership, hence I included him. If I remember correctly, there was talk of him being a great clubhouse guy.

Punto?
Do we have anyone with , how do you say, personality? Who is going to express emotion on the field? Mauer, no. Morneau, no. Kubel, no? Is there a team with that plays with less emotional content in the majors?

I'm sorry to say that Punto may be the most fun player to watch. Now I'll go cry.

Potentially Delmon Young...
But I don't think that rage is the emotion that we want to see.

You know how I got over losing Santana?

Re: SI "Curse"
Yeah...the same SI that had the Patriots on the cover 4 times during the regular season this past year, the Giants on the cover before the Super Bowl, and Josh Beckett on the cover of their postseason special.

This SI "curse" is greatly exaggerated.

by MetsFan on Feb 22, 2008 1:17 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

yeah
The giants actually made the cover for two weeks in a row before the Super Bowl (and then a third time after they won).  So much for that jinx.

You mean SI's covers aren't actually cursed???
Thanks for taking the time to let me know that, Mets Fan.

Packers
I still believe that the Packers were jinxed...they were on the cover the issue before they lost to the Giants.
