Game Thread: Twins vs. Cincinnati

It's the first spring training game of the year, and I admit I'm a little late on the game thread.  It's 0-0 after three and a half in Sarasota.

Twins lineup (from La Velle E. Neal III):

  1. Carlos Gomez, CF.
  2. Brendan Harris, 2B.
  3. Joe Mauer, C.
  4. Michael Cuddyer, RF.
  5. Jason Kubel, LF.
  6. Craig Monroe, DH.
  7. Mike Lamb, 3B.
  8. Garrett Jones, 1B.
  9. Alexi Casilla, SS
P Scott Baker, Glen Perkins, Matt Guerrier, Pat Neshek, Casey Daigle, Rickey Barrett, Julio DePaula.

Monroe just grounded out to end the top of the fourth, with Cuddyer on second.

lineup changes for the bottom of the 5th
Perkins on to pitch the fifth.  Matt Macri pinch-ran for Lamb after the latter singled in the top of the fifth, and has stayed in to play third.

Jose Morales is now catching.

3-0
Perkins just gave up a three-run dinger.  Not a good start to spring for him.

Ouch
I'm just watching the box score, which refreshes every 30 seconds.  It hasn't come up yet.

Time to get a sound card.

Gordon and Gladden on Perkins
The Twins announcers both thought Perkins looked like he didn't have much velocity on his fastball... said it looked like a grapefruit coming up there.  After the home run, Perkins also gave up a double off the base of the center field fence before getting out of it... right now he's looking at about a 1500 OPS against.

Ullger
It takes Scott Ullger just six innings of baseball to make his first mistake, sending Tolbert home where he was "out by a mile" according to Gladden.  The more things change...

The Twins did get a run - down 3-1 after five and a half.

Daigle's Line
1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 K

I'm curious about the run that scored in the bottom of the sixth, because it should have been charged to Daigle.  MLB.com doesn't account for the fourth run.

Reds win 6-1
Ricky Barrett pitched the final inning for the Twins, allowing two hits and three runs (two earned) with a walk and a strikeout.

Sour grapes?
I hope this doesn't sound like sour grapes, but I always feel like the Twins are mentally slower coming out of the blocks than other teams (5 singles). Why is that?
