Quote of the Day

For the full story, see Kelly Theiser's story here.

While it was Nick Blackburn who didn't allow any runs on Tuesday afternoon, it was Phil Humber who made the start and apparently made a good impression on his coaches.  He knows there's still work to be done, but he also flashed his talent in working himself out of a jam.  Humber is getting close.

"It felt like that was probably the best stuff I've had so far this spring in terms of in games...It was nice to be able to have three pitches going that I could throw over the plate. The only thing I can say that I can improve on next time is two-strike pitches, I just caught too much of the plate with a few of those."

Watching on Gameday
He was dealing. At one point he had six outs on nine pitches, four grounders and two pop-ups. When he needed a strikeout, he got it. He still made a few mistakes, but it was one of the most impressive starts of the spring.

With Baker ailing and Liriano struggling to regain some semblance of the form he showed before the injury, Humber is a real option to start the year in the rotation. It would sure be a great story if he seized the opportunity. Yo gotta love his attitude.

Concordia outing
My mind is floored how long that Concordia start put him in the doghouse.  I kept getting excited seeing him toss donuts and then thinking, 'Why is he still pitching late innings?'

This guy needs to come up north and get opportunities if Liriano's not ready in the next 12 days.

12 days!
12 days!  12 days!  12 days!

I love this time of the year - debating about the starting rotation, which rookie is going to come through for team, Brackets at work when you should be working, grass showing and turning green, being able to go outside without a parka and oh yeah, some baseball team is about to begin playing games that count.

Go Twins!
