Twins Must Win to Keep Pace

Chicago beat Detroit this afternoon, 10-0, meaning that the Twins have to achieve victory in order to remain just a half game out of the Wild Card lead.  With the White Sox coming into town tomorrow for a three-game set, the closer we are the better.

Before we look past the Orioles though, the Twins need to concentrate on tonight.  Matt Garza turned in a solid performance last night, going six innings and allowing just one run, striking out one and walking one.  In the fourth inning, Torii Hunter added his 18th homer of the season to supplement a nice 2-run first inning, giving Garza a decent cushion.  He was able to not only locate his fastball better, but his breaking pitches as well.

Tonight, Boof Bonser looks for a second consecutive strong outing.  His last time out, he was able to stifle Chicago just enough for the Twins to put together a great team win.  Tonight he takes on a very mediocre, but experienced, Kris Benson.

Game kicks off in just a couple of minutes.  Go Twins!
