All Quiet on the Western Nathan Front.
Other than the usual posturing in the media by teams looking to grab any edge they can, propaganda or not, nothing of note took place for the Twins on Monday. In fact, there are only three notes to be made.
- Johan Santana hasn't been traded yet. According to MLB.com, the Mariners have "officially" withdrawn from the Santana Sweepstakes, leaving the Yankees and Red Sox as the lead horses, with the Dodgers and Angels riding up the back stretch.
- La Velle E. Neal III makes a footnote that while Joe Nathan has had his name "in a couple trade rumors", the closer doesn't believe he'll be traded. It's being chopped to death, but it'll be interesting to see what teams pop into the fray should Santana be dealt.
- The Twins signed pitcher Casey Daigle to a minor league contract. Daigle, 26, has logged 61 innings in the majors in ten starts (2004) and ten relief appearances (2006). His major league line has been rough so far: 6.46 ERA, 1.79 WHIP, 3.52 K/9, 4.84 BB/9, 4.47 HR/9. His minor league line is somewhat better: 130 starts, 260 games, 4.90 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, 6.00 K/9, 2.97 BB/9, 0.95 HR/9. I know, I know...his wife.
