With the 28th pick in the 2007 draft, the Minnesota Twins select Center Fielder Ben Revere.
Age: 19
Height: 5' 9"
Weight: 155 lbs
Bats/Throws: Left/Right
According to the scouting reports available from MLB.com, Revere is an interesting pick if you're looking for a lead-off style hitter. He has a tendency to pull the ball and has no power to speak of, but because of his blazing speed and his defensive range, the Twins believe he'll be an asset as long as they can teach him to be a better hitter.
While he does project as an above-average center fielder, his arm strength and accuracy are currently rated as "below-average". As Revere ages and gains strength and muscle, improvement should be made.
Overall, Revere is a decent pick. He's young and has plenty of time to get better in the areas of the game where he's lacking strength. His scouting report states he's in the build of a Corey Patterson, meaning that he should be able to maintain his athletic frame and speed as he ages. If he can develop ANY power whatsoever and mature in his approach at the plate, Revere could have a bright future.
My question: Is he another Denard Span?
