Swarzak has been either good or bad in his seven starts, with not much gray area in between. Five days ago in Oakland he nearly shut the A's down over seven innings, allowing just a pair of earned runs. One thing Swarzak had been especially good at, or lucky at perhaps, is keeping the ball in the park. Opponents aren't hitting a lot of line drives off of him, but approximately 80% of his balls-in-play have been split between grounders and fly-balls; yet only three fly balls have left the park. His fastball has been his best pitch so far this season, but because of small sample size the breaking ball and the off-speed pitch could both turn positive with a great start this afternoon. Which is exactly what this team needs.Lineups
