Know Thine Enemy: Lone Star Ball
Including today, there are 33 games left in the 2009 regular season. I can't quite get a grip on that; this summer has flown by. Throw records out the window--if the Twins can pick up one game a week on first place, this division will be their's for the taking.
Pitcher records don't mean jack, but they're still an intriguing quirk of the game. Baker hasn't lost since July 7, and since the start of June is 10-1 in 16 starts. As far as results go, he's been great over the last three months. In August he's walked four in 32.2 innings, with just two balls leaving the park. It may have been a slow start, but there's no doubt who the ace of this rotation is right now.
11 days ago, Baker defeated Millwood in a game where neither pitcher came out with their best stuff. Millwood is a veteran who's played a bit over his head this season, but he's a good arm to have in the rotation while fighting for a playoff berth. If he can work his arsenal with a bit of smoke and mirrors and deception, he could have a very good day.
