The American Mustache Institute is a Thing That Exists

Probably because I was navigating the tug-of-war between WORRY (Nick Nelson) and REMAIN CALM (Phil Mackey) going on in Twins Territory, I missed this item from earlier in the week (h/t: holymackerel): the American Mustache Institute is seriously considering Carl Pavano, curator of the Pavstache, for its 2010 Robert Goulet Memorial Mustached American of the Year Award.

Quote from AMI founder Aaron Perlut:

Carl Pavano grew a mustache this year and has had one of the best seasons of his career after being thought of as washed up and, really, soon to be out of baseball. It's really once again demonstrated that the ultimate performance enhancer is indeed the mustache on the athletic playing field.

No word on if Felix Hernandez is disqualified from this because of his lack of a mustache or his W/L record.
