Twinkie Town 2011 Top 50...Prospect #17!

New, 21 comments

With 58 of the 301 votes cast (19%), Deolis Guerra was selected as our Sixteenth ranked prospect for 2011. Closer Billy Bullock was nine votes back with Anthony Slama, Rene Tosoni and Eddie Rosario another eight to twelve votes behind Bullock.

Nate Roberts didn't receive the minimum two percent so we will be adding two players to the next round. One is an exciting young pitching prospect who signed with the Twins as a seventeen year old third baseman in 2007. After hitting for roughly a .200 average for the DSL Twins in his first two season, Manuel Soliman was converted to a pitcher with the DSL Twins in 2009. This past year he skipped the Gulf Coast League, moving up to the more advanced Appalachian Rookie League. Soliman made twelve starts for Elizabethton, finishing with a 5-2 record, a 3.48 ERA, a 1.05 WHIP, 74 strikeouts and 21 walks in 64.2 innings. Many scouts who have seen him believe he could be very good with an upside being a second or third starter in the Twins rotation.

The other addition is a young man who had an excellent year in 2010. Brian Dozier moved from Beloit to Ft. Myers early last summer to become the only Miracle to be named to the Florida State League Post-Season All-Star Team. After hitting for a .278 average in Beloit, Dozier hit .274/.352/.354 in 350 at bats for the Miracle. The Twins eighth round pick out of Southern Mississippi in 2009, Dozier would take more walks than strikeouts (44-41) with the Miracle while stealing ten bases in fourteen attempts.

I have to get some family to the airport tomorrow afternoon, so the Seventeenth round will close at 2pm, Wednesday, December 29th.
