One run on 8 hits wasn't enough this afternoon, as the Twins lost to a depleted Baltimore Orioles squad 3-1 in Fort Myers. While most of the Orioles stayed home for an intrasquad game (only one expected opening day starter, Nolan Reimold played), the Twins started five expected regulars (Hudson, Mauer, Cuddyer, Kubel and Harris) and never really got anything started offensively.
Studs:
-
Scott Baker: The Twins opening day starter was sharp, 4 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 3 SO.
- Joe Mauer: After a brief recovery from a foul tip to the shoulder, 2 singles in 3 AB.
- Ben Revere: Continues his hot spring, 2-3 with a bunt single.
- Pat Neshek: Pitched one perfect inning, two fly balls and a grounder.
Duds:
- Clay Condrey: 1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 BB, game up a 2 run home run to Chad Moeller.
-
Michael Cuddyer: 0-3 with a throwing error that put the Orioles up 1-0 in the 5th.
- Juan Portes: 0-4 with two strikeouts.
