Viva precautionary measures!
Eight days ago, Denard Span dove for a ball in Chicago. It was sore, the Twins kept him on the bench for three games against the A's, and apparently decided to scheudle an MRI as a precautionary measure. I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that then deciding to play the guy prior to said "precautionary measure" isn't doing it right, but maybe that's just me thinking it's worse than it actually is.
Which makes me wonder why they scheduled an MRI. Which means I'm only confusing myself.
From what I've seen Span looks okay, and I'm sure the MRI today will come out negative (which is good, for you Michael Scott's of the world). It's nothing, people! Nothing to see here! Go back to your daily lives!
Interestingly, the only three position players for the Twins that came north with the team and haven't missed time due to injury: Drew Butera, Delmon Young and Michael Cuddyer. Span, Hudson, Mauer, Morneau, Kubel, Thome, Hardy, Punto and Casilla have all spent various days either on the disabled list or being held out.
