With the end of the season looming, a common theme in late September for baseball, here's some fun historical reading for you.
Agent Rob Plummer: Minnesota Twins to Sign Miguel Angel Sano (2009) - One year ago tomorrow, this went down. It was a fairly big surprise, because even though the Twins were in on the rumors for most of the summer I don't think anybody really believed they'd pull it off. The Pirates weren't happy, that's for sure.
Twins, Sox Play for AL Central Title (2008) - Two years ago today the Tigers beat themselves, and the White Sox were the benefactors. That was a terrible game, no matter how you look at it. It forced game 163. Jim Thome off Nick Blackburn, 24 hours later.
AL Central Championship on the Line (2008) - I preview the Twins/Sox game.
Trying (and Failing) to be Philosophical About This (2008) - Jon kicks furniture.
Twins Lose, Sox Win AL Central (2008) - My game recap...apparently Jon Garland threw a lot of fastballs.
Santana to the Dodgers? (2007) - The Twins missed the playoffs in '07 as well, which meant we'd already started speculating on the fate of the best southpaw starter in the game (at the time). It was a rumor started by Ben Maller of Fox Sports, who thought Los Angeles would be sending both Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw back to Minnesota. Knowing what we know now, it's interesting that most people didn't think Kemp/Kershaw would have been enough. What would you take: the promise of Kemp and Kershaw after '07, or Jon Rauch - J.J. Hardy - Deolis Guerra? (Keep in mind that this package was a total Maller fabrication and wasn't actually on the table.)
The Ice King Cometh (2006) - One of the favorite things I've ever written for Twinkie Town. I still miss The Bradke.
