After fourteen rounds, Steve Singleton was finally selected as our Thirty-Eighth prospect with 42 of 151 (27%) votes. Nate Roberts picked up 20 votes for second place his first round back in the voting while James Beresford and several others were closely behind Roberts.
Cesar Ciurcina may have been the GCL Twins top starter, however, he received only two votes and will be dropped from the next round. Added will be one of the organizations top pitchers, Steve Hirschfeld, who was injured much of last year. After a trip to the prestigious Arizona Fall League in 2009, Hirschfeld was injured early last year and didn't return until late in the season. He appeared in 11 games (22.0 innings) for the Rock Cats with a 5.32 ERA, 21 strikeouts and 13 walks. Hirschfeld moved up to AAA at the end of the season where he made one start, pitching 6.0 innings with three earned runs. Hirschfeld pitched for Mayaguez in the Puerto Rican League this winter, where he made nine starts (48.1 innings) with an excellent 3.72 ERA, 38 strikeouts and 13 walks.
Also added will be a young man who came to the Twins from Chanhassen and the Gophers, Nate Hansen. Hansen, who was the Miracle's regular first baseman, was the Twins 28th round pick in 2008. Last year was a break-out year for Hansen, who hit .254/.324/.385 in 405 at bats with a team best eleven home runs.
This round will remain open through tomorrow Noon, Friday, January 28th. Please continue to comment on why you voted as you did and who you would like to see included in future rounds.
