IT'S A TRUE FACT*: When Scott Baker grows a goatee, he refers to it as Philip Madrigal, and will reserve a table for two at restaurants where Philip Madrigal is the plus one. When the server asks if the other guest is arriving, Baker just glares at him or her. When the server walks away, Baker says, "It's okay, Philip Madrigal. I know you're here. I know."

*Probably not.

Tim Wakefield

#49 / Pitcher / Boston Red Sox

Dice-K was supposed to start this evening, but he had to pitch in relief during Wednesday's marathon with the Los Angeles Angels of John Wayne Airport, LLC. Wakefield gets the call, and it will be interesting/terrifying to see what this Twins lineup does with the knuckler.

News-y type stuff after the jump:

  • Today is my wedding anniversary, so I may be out of pocket when the lineups come in. Feel free to post them in comments or pester one of my fellow editors to plug them in. They love it when you do that.
  • Kevin Slowey will be activated from the disabled list after tonight's game. No indication as to who will get moved to make way for him.
  • Ron Gardenhire also told 1500ESPN that Francisco Liriano is "likely" to start on Monday at Fenway Park. There had been some speculation that he'd get pushed to Tuesday.
  • I assume tonight will see the 2011 debut of the Trevor Plouffe Experience (UPDATE: assumption correct! Ben Revere, too.). Joe C. had a nice piece about him in the Strib.
  • As referenced up top, catcher Rene Rivera joins French Resistance fighter Rene Tosoni on the Twins improbably Rene-heavy roster. He replaces STEVE HOLM!, about whom we can say but two words: STEVE HOLM!

Enjoy the game, everybody.
