So...another night, another loss. The Twins drop to 17-37, continuing to hold on to the worst record in baseball. And just in case you're wondering who holds on to the best record in the American League? Yeah, that would be the Cleveland Indians. It's a crazy world, guys.
Notes, studs, and duds after the jump.
Scott Baker really didn't have a lot tonight, as he only went 6 innings, giving up 7 hits and 4 earned runs. He walked three batters and struck out five. The two batters he walked in the 3rd inning would score after Miguel Cabrera hit his 11th home run of the season, taking a lead the Tigers would not relinquish for the rest of the game. Chuck James did come on in relief, though, and pitched 2 scoreless innings, striking out one batter and walking another. Positive signs for a bullpen that's been less than spectacular so far.
Rick Porcello pitched 6.2 innings tonight, giving up 6 hits and getting 2 earned runs...on a Drew Butera home run. Yeah, I know. Madness. Other than that, Porcello pitched well enough to keep the Twins off the board for 6 innings. After Porcello, the Tigers put Daniel Schlereth in the game, who threw one pitch that hit Justin Morneau and was promptly replaced by none other than our good friend Al Alburquerque. Eventually Jose Valverde, a Twins fan favorite, would come in to end the game.
Notes
-Alexi Casilla attempted to bunt with two strikes in the top of the ninth inning. Why, you ask? Well, no one knows, but everyone's mad.
-Jason Kubel and/or Jim Thome will be placed on the DL. Hooray!
-Tsuyoshi Nishioka played a 7 inning game today down in Florida, and will be doing the same tomorrow.
-According to Patrick Reusse, Rochester will only have 21 players on the roster, and 5 arms in the bullpen. Good time to be a Red Wings fan!
-We're really, really bad at baseball. It's just a sad fact at this point.
Studs
-Ehh...Chuck James? Sure, Chuck James.
-DREW BUTERA. 2 run home runs FTW!
Duds
-Everyone else on offense. No one got more than one hit. Unacceptable.
-Delmon Young's 'defense'. It's terrible. Just awful.
-Alexi Casilla. Don't bunt with two strikes. What are you doing?
-Pinch hitting Matt Tolbert for Drew Butera. It worked out well enough, I suppose, but...why? Head scratcher.
-EVERYONE ON DEFENSE TONIGHT. Good lord, stop sucking. Please.
Onward to Kansas City, I suppose.
